Jeff Pulver calls for more innovation in voice

“…. And after listening to Brian Whitton speak, it became clear to me there is still a great opportunity to disrupt the communications industry, if for no other reason, than because of the amount of business processes in place at Verizon (and other incumbent Telcos) before a new service is deployed. In fact, in the time it takes for the financial analysts at Verizon work out the operating budgets for doing a voice over ATM rollout and the time engineering spends trying to justify the “risks” for deploying an IP Voice solution, the seed of a communications revolution could planted and sown. All it takes are like minded people who want to change the way we communicate and the guts to take on the status-quo. And what is better than the present time to reboot and restart the Internet Communications revolution?…..”

What if… ?

Here’s a little video that I think is really funny. Kudos to Efe…

And why wouldn’t you like to go to Sweden, or at least Reb us, when we threw these great parties!?!

Facebook application coming!

We wanted to make Rebtel more viral and Facebook less wired, so the developers here have started building an application that will connect the offline life to the online Facebook life.

Having cool apps on your FB account can make you start playing Super Mario again, take stupid tests, draw out your where-about and many things more. These are all fun in the moment of being online. You feel like you’re coming a bit closer to your friends simply by clicking on your computer.

I, myself, often crave to go offline seeking contact in the more traditional way, taking a beer or calling somebody on the phone. The fact that many of my friends are too far away for drinking with makes me call them more, now that I can without paying so much. The people I’ve met on FB are also in many cases abroad and therefore I feel like taking these contacts even closer even though distance is in the way.

I hope that many people will try the new app as soon as it’s done, so that we can get in contact with these!

Advertising stupidity

The relevance of online ads is something that has been discussed around the Facebook application forms in recent weeks. With the launch of Facebook flyers it’s now very easy to place “targeted” content towards certain campuses via FB – but is this actually making ads any more relevant?

I would say no – I think that the ads should be relevant to the viewer as well as the content (or profile page) they’re displayed next to. In any case – FB has a lot of data on me (as a viewer), on the profile/page I’m viewing as well as on my click habits – so USE this data!

But I guess this isn’t really unique – I get special offers for tampons every week even though I’m a single guy living by myself…

Some more opinions on this at GigaOM and from Robert Scoble. The original study of flyer click-through rate gave an abysmal 0,04%. All very good reads on this – so now the question is – how tobe visible on Facebook?

Friday fun!

Challengers are on Rebel Challenge

Two weekdays has gone by in the Challenge and 15 challengers have already signed up, gotten their tools and started. Linus and Björn are still in the lead, but that’s how it should be, since we have time on our side. The summer’s cooking and many new challengers will join and start kicking ass by the weekend. We look forward to seeing them challenge the currents.
